What's On
From April to September is our outdoor season. There are four elements
to the outdoor season:
-
Weekly practice at Preston Park in Brighton: Every Wednesday from April, starting at 6pm
and lasting until the light fades. In each practice we do a bit of a warmup and some drills
to learn and improve our playing skills, and then we jump into a game.
Afterwards we retire to a pub nearby (currently the Open House) for a drink or two and maybe some food.
This is the chance for you to just turn up and start playing, whether you are complete beginner or a seasoned pro.
Check the calendar and get in touch to come and give it a go!
-
Tournaments all over the UK: These are 1- or 2-day weekend tournaments where teams from different divisions and leagues
all over the country get together for some intense softball - there's nothing like playing 6 games in a day!
Check the calendar for more details.
-
Non-tournament games: amongst ourselves, against teams in the area (from the Solent League or Redhill & Reigate league, for example)...
any game's a good game. Get in touch if you want to play us!
-
Socialising! The practices, the missed balls, the drinks afterwards, the travelling, the camping,
the tournament parties... it's what we're here for, it's what makes the game special.
It may be cold and damp, but we still play softball
through the winter! But don't worry, it's indoors. This is what we do during the
winter season:
- Indoor softball on Sunday every couple of weeks: Indoor softball is great fun and
it will keep you in shape until the summer season starts in April. Check the
calendar for dates. Indoor softball takes place at
Stanley Deason.
We try and make the most of the time
in the sports hall, so if you've never played before you may want to check out the
indoor rules first! After the session
we often pop down the pub - it's
thirsty work!
Indoor is a great chance for you to just turn up and start playing, whether you are complete beginner or a seasoned pro.
- Indoor tournaments: During the winter season there is only one indoor tournament
we always play at: the Tom Prince Charity Indoor Tournament at the beginning of January. As a new player it's great experience for the outdoor
season and for you old-timers you can catch up with fellow softballers.
- Social events: Some times we scrub up and go out for food and drink like the normal
folk! We'll also be holding an AGM at some point, and maybe some scorekeeping and strategy clinics.
Check the calendar for more details.
Next session
If you want to give it a go, there's no time like the present. You can get in touch
beforehand so that we know you're coming.
Have a look at the calendar to check that you know when and where we're playing next.
What to bring
Bring yourself and your skills (if you're a veteran) or your sense of humour (if you're a novice)!
We provide all the equipment needed for the game, including gloves, bats, balls and bases.
But bring your trusty glove if you have one!
During the winter we play in an indoor hall,
so wear trainers and clothes you're comfortable running and generally jumping
around in, specially if you're planning to dive around. Even
if it's cold outside, we can guarantee you'll get hot and sweaty, so shorts and
a t-shirt are probably the best option. They only have drink and snack machines
at the sports centre, so bring some lunch and a drink if you fancy it.
During the summer we play on grass, so wear trainers and clothes you're comfortable running and generally jumping
around in; depending on how enthusiastic you are, they could get grassy or muddy.
You can also bring any other bits and pieces you would want when playing around in a field: sunglasses,
a drink, a jumper for when the sun goes down...
