Indoor softball tonight!

Hi Beachcombers,

Last Sunday we played at the SSL Indoor Charity Tournament in Portsmouth. Have a read about how we did below!

Our next indoor softball session takes place TONIGHT! If you’ve never played indoor softball before, come and give it a try! It’s loads of fun! We play at the University of Sussex Sports Centre every second Friday from 8pm-10pm and it’s just £5 per person!

If one of you lovely people would be available to give me a hand with bringing the equipment tonight I’d really appreciate it.

Don’t forget, our AGM will take place on Wednesday 18th March at the Park View. Please mark it in your diaries! I’ll be stepping down from my role as club president this year so if you want to have a say in the club’s leadership for this season and beyond, please do make an effort to attend the AGM. We’ll be electing a new club president along with other committee positions. The full agenda will be sent out soon. If you have any questions, comments or concerns in the meantime please let me know.

I hope to see you all tonight!

SSL Indoor Charity Tournament

Last Sunday we took a trip to Portsmouth to play in the Solent Softball League’s annual indoor tournament. We started off strong with a 19-15 win vs the Solent Sluggers. We faced the Portsmouth Shafters next, when unfortunately Alex suffered a pulled calf which ended his day. We battled on to a close 20-19 loss. Some solid defence and great batting gave us a couple of convincing wins in our next two games – 29-2 vs the Baffins Brewers and 19-5 vs the Solent Oddballs.

We ended the group stage with a 3-1 record, which gave us a place in the Cup semi final where we faced the formidable Portsmouth Dodgers. We battled it out for two innings, ending up with a 13-13 tie. This forced us into an extra inning, so we started off by putting up 10 runs in the top half. The Dodgers tallied up some runs until they eventually had 9 scored with the bases loaded. The next three consecutive batters failed to score and we were able to hold on to win the game 23-22, putting us into the Cup final.

We faced the Portsmouth Shafters once again, who gave us our only loss of the day so far. We put up a good fight but we were pipped at the post, losing by just two runs.

We finished the day with the Cup Runner Up trophy. Well done to everyone who played. A great start to the 2020 season!

It’s a fast-paced, smaller version of softball with adapted rules to suit the indoor setting.

Each session is just £5 per person and it’s LOADS of fun! It’s also the perfect way to keep fit during the winter! All abilities are welcome and we supply all the equipment. Be sure to bring your friends!

We play at at the University of Sussex Sports Centre. Here’s a link to the venue on Google Maps:
