Softball tomorrow! Social night coming up soon!

Hi Beachcombers,

We’re back with our weekly session tomorrow evening at Preston Park. The weather forecast looks great! Come and join us from 6pm. As always, new players are very welcome to come along! Afterwards we’ll be heading up to the Park View pub for a post-game drink. All are welcome!

As some of you already know, I was knocked off my bike on the way to work last Tuesday. I suffered a broken kneecap and spent 6 days in hospital. Unfortunately I won’t be able to play softball for the rest of the season. However, you’ll still be in the very capable hands of the rest of our coaching staff – Wendy, Oscar and Justin, along with several other experienced players who are always happy to help. Thank you for the messages of support I’ve received from some of you. I have several months of recovery ahead, so I’m looking forward to being back on the field next season. I’ll do my best to head down to the park and say hello when I can.

In a couple of weeks, Preston Park will be closed to set up for the Pride festival. That means we’ll have a week off from softball. Instead of our usual session on 31st July, we’ll be having a social evening at our usual pub, the Park View, to have some food and drinks and hopefully watch some baseball. Please come along from 6pm. I’m hoping to be there too, so it would be great to see you all.

We sent a team to play at the Windsor Tournament last weekend! Have a read about how we did below.

Our brand new jerseys were delivered last Thursday! If you ordered one, you can collect yours when you attend your next training session.

I had arranged a friendly game with the Horsham Broncos for Sunday 28th July in Brighton. However, I’ve since found out that the park will not be available that weekend due to the set up for the Pride festival, so this game will be rescheduled. More details coming soon.

Our next tournament will be the Bristol wRECk tournament which takes place 17-18 August. This tournament is very well organised and loads of fun! New players are more than welcome to sign up. If you’d like to play at this tournament, you can sign up using the link below:

Windsor Tournament

We entered a team into the Windsor Tournament, which took place at Farnham Park in Slough last weekend. The first two games were very close, ending with two losses at 7-6 and 14-11. The third game was against a strong Game of Throws side where we were simply outmatched, losing 18-0. The next game was another close one, losing 8-5 to the Dodgers. The last game of the day was a 14-6 loss to the Thames Valley Hurricanes. So after five games, we finished the day with five losses. However, we had some very close games so our spirits remained high and we looked forward to the next day of the tournament.

We started the day on Sunday with another one-run loss, losing 4-3 to the Spartans, and finished the group stage with a 12-4 loss to the Scorchers Yellow. Finishing at the bottom of our group put us into the semi-final for the Spoon vs the Spirits. We weren’t able to hold them off and were knocked out of the tournament.

Some of the games were very close, so finishing the tournament with no wins was a bit disappointing. However, everyone had lots of fun and the team spirit was excellent. The new players who came did an absolutely fantastic job and were very impressive in their first tournament. We’re also very grateful for the various players who came and played for us in games where we were short of a player or two. Well done to everyone who played. The next tournament will be Bristol wRECk on 17-18 August. Sign up now and help us get some wins!
